UR-CAVM attends the Agriculture Show 2023

The University of Rwanda-College of Agriculture Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (UR-CAVM) participates in 16th National Agriculture Show (AGRISHOW) 2023 under the theme “Transforming Agriculture into a resilient and competitive sector through Technology, Innovation and Investment” held from 20th to 29th July 2023 at Mulindi/Gasabo Show Ground in Kigali, The AGRISHOW was launched by Honorable Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources Dr. Ildephonse MUSAFIRI. The Show brings together farmers, business owners, researchers, members of the public and educational institutions.

During the event, the representatives of UR-CAVM had the privilege of exhibiting and presenting academic programs and agricultural research projects, innovations and sustainable farming practices developed by lecturers and students. These are : Promoting upland rice production in Rwanda, Orange freshed sweet potatoes and soyabeans blended instant flour, oil extracted from targetes Munata , Production of different soybean products (TOFFU, Milk, Ocra/Andazi), Agribusiness model pamphlets (Mushroom production, Vermicompost cages),A mobile kitchen garden, Eco-Friendly and Aloe potato soap, Pesticide produced from combination of garlic and chill pepper, Ishema biscuit made from irish potato flour, eggs, milk, baking powder, wheat flour and other ingredient, Processed cabbages into cabbage juice and wine, Processed wine from different fruits and papaya jam and pectin from peels and Snacks products processed from mushroom.

It was also an excellent opportunity for networking and collaboration whereby Dr. Guillaume NYAGATARE, the Principal of UR-CAVM had networking sessions with students’ exhibitors, potential collaborators, industries, NGOs and government representatives which will strengthen existing partnerships but also set the substance for potential collaborations on future research projects and capacity building initiatives.

UR-CAVM participation did not go unnoticed as the College received a special recognition as “the 1st Run Up in Research and Innovation during the 16th AGRISHOW 2023” for its outstanding research efforts and contribution to sustainable agriculture. Additionally, one project of UR-CAVM students named “Processed cabbages into cabbage juice and wine” was covered in the voice of America as an interesting research project.
