Welcome note

Welcome to School of Agricultural Engineering and Environmental Management (SAEEM) of the College of Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (CAVM) of University of Rwanda (UR). Having spent the past 5 years as the Dean of this School I can share what I have come to know about the School and I am confident you too will encounter the same – It has a strong track record of undergraduate teaching and an ever growing reputation for discovery, innovation and research excellence.

The fundamental belief is that we are here to provide the resources needed for our students to succeed – often summed up by the statement “It’s your future ; we’ll help you get there”. So please join us for an exceptional learning experience – both scientifically and socially.

This innovative community of School and staff are dedicated and supportive because they see students as an investment in the future. We have developed and deliver programs and courses which provide knowledge and experiences that serve as a strong foundation for our students. Thus allowing them, as alumni, to take their place in this changing world where they are providing solutions for the present and benefits for the future of our community and overall quality of life. Our graduates are across the country and around the world in a variety of careers including agricultural engineers, farm machinery and power engineers, academics, scientists, consultants, agro industrial entrepreneurs, rural development specialist, soil and water conservation specialist, forest conservators, rangers and business leaders to name a few.

Our three departments offer a wide variety of programs in

Forestry and Nature Conservation
Irrigation and Drainage and
Agricultural Mechanizations.
Specifically, the Department of Forestry and Nature Conservation fosters dynamic research in biological, chemical, physical, environmental and natural resources management, which formalizes interdisciplinary research at the boundary of the two sciences viz Forestry and Environmental Sciences. In Irrigation and Drainage Department, a dedicated and approachable team prepares their students for employment, further study and life-long learning through a variety of programs and innovative research activities. The Department of Agricultural Mechanization offer programs in Farm Machinery & Power and Crop Process Engineering and conduct research in a number of areas throughout Bio-energy and on Post-Harvest Engineering and their enthusiastic cohort of students have excellent prospects of high-paying jobs after graduation. Overall, the School provides a dynamic, hands-on environment where you can do experimental and theoretical research in the fields of Agricultural Engineering, Forestry and Environmental Management at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
