Prof. Hilda Vasanthakaalam hands over the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences

Prof. Hilda Vasanthakaalam, served as Dean of the School of Agriculture & Food Science (SAFS) since May, 2018. She handed of the school leadership to Dr. Antoine KARANGWA so that the latter can continue leading the school to its full growth and expansion.

The handover was officiated by Dr. Guillaume NYAGATARE, the Principal of the College of Agriculture, Animal Sciences and Veterinary Medicine (UR-CAVM) who thanked Prof. Hilda for her unequalled leadership, teaching and research services rendered to the University in general and the College in particular. He urged her to keep the same spirit while serving the college under her usual teaching and research activities.
Speaking at the occasion Prof. Hilda Vasanthakaalam thanked God for having enabled her to successfully fulfill assigned responsibilities. Her heartfelt gratefulness to the University senior leadership, the college management and faculty members for the trust, support and team spirit that contributed to her success. She further challenged the college management and the incoming Dean to ensure that SAFS establishes a center for Nutrition and Food Security, develop more postgraduate programs (Masters and PhD) and ensure that the existing degree programs are reviewed and globally benchmarked to produce fit for purpose graduates who can effectively contribute to the development of Rwanda and compete globally.
Dr. Antoine KARANGWA, the incoming Ag. Dean of the school of Agriculture and Food Sciences expressed his gratitude to the University and the College management for entrusting him with the duties and responsibilities to led the largest school in UR-CAVM. He pledged to do his best and ensure that the school grows faster and strong. He thanked Prof. Hilda for the school achievement so far and promised to build from there by ensuring the preservation and enhancement. He further called for faculty members to keep and improve the existing team spirit which will be a driving engine to sustainable school growth.
In his closing remarks, the College Principal UR-CAVM promised the college support and called all faculty members to keep the tireless dedication to offering quality education, research and community outreach because they remain key inputs to transforming the agriculture sector in Rwanda, hence improving the livelihood of Rwandans and booming the national economy.
