Training on seed business and agronomical aspects.

University of Rwanda (UR) with support of the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA) is implementing a project on “Improving access to good quality seeds of improved varieties through capacity building of seed enterprises on technical and business aspects”. This project is implemented under a consortium between University of Rwanda (UR) and University of Nairobi (UoN), Seed Enterprise Management Institute (SEMIs).
The project aims at building capacity of seed producers in Rwanda through providing a series of short courses on Seed Business Management, Seed Marketing, Seed Production and Seed Post harvest handling while focusing on maize, potato, beans and soybean.

This week, 01-04, December 2020, staffs from UR Colleges ; CAVM and CBE, led by Dr. Saidi Rumanzi Mbaraka are training Seed company personnel and private seed inspectors on Fall Army Worm and Maize Lethal Necrosis disease at La Pallise Hotel Nyamata Bugesera district. At the same time, they are also training outgrowers from on seed business and technical aspects in Musanze district.

Through this project and other community outreach programs, University of Rwanda will continue to support the seed sector through a series of capacity building programs and creating linkages key players in the seed value chain. Consequently, this will ultimately increase availability and access to certified seeds of hybrid maize, soybeans, Irish potatoes, and beans by small-scale farmers.
