UR Sweden Programme Coordination Office (PCO) visits UR Busogo Campus to interact with UR-CAVM Management and coordinators on the progress of two new sub programs; supported by UR Sweden Program, which will soon be launched at the Campus.
Delivering her welcoming remarks, The Acting Principal of UR CAVM; Hilda Vasanthakaalam PhD, presented four different schools of UR-CAVM which are School of Agriculture and Food Sciences with four departments: Crop science, Soil Science, Rural Development& Agricultural Economics and Food Sciences located in UR Busogo Campus, two schools of Animal science and veterinary medicine and another school of school of Agricultural engineering located in UR Nyagatare Campus Eastern Province.
The school of Animal science and veterinary medicine has two departments: Veterinary Medicine and Animal Production and the school of Agricultural engineering with two departments which are Irrigation and Drainage and Agricultural Mechanization and the School of Forestry & Biodiversity Conservation with one department of Forestry &Nature Conservation located in UR Huye Campus Southern Province.
Also, she mentioned that UR CAVM has Masters Programs and it is soon launching two PhD Programs Engendering Rural Transformation for Sustainable Development (ENTRUST) and Integrated Agricultural Production Systems, Sustainable Agriculture and Healthy Food Production.
Concluding her remarks, she thanked the PCO Team for the visit and for having offered the two PhD Programs to UR CAVM.
Mr. Raymond Ndikumana; one member of UR Sweden PCO said that the collaboration is going to be cemented as Agriculture is among five subprograms that UR Sweden Program is going to fund. He added that Apart from these two PhDs Programs, UR CAVM is going to participate in the program of Nutrition, Air pollution, bio Mass, Bio energy and waste Management.
And also he added that CAVM is going to participate in water and environmental resource management. “We are not only going to support the CAVM to build its research capacity but also its research environment in terms of ICT and infrastructure so that the two PhDs programs can be a success” added Mr Ndikumana.
The College Management thanked the UR Sweden PCO delegation for the fruitful discussion about the research collaboration in the implementation of the two new PhDs programs and Agriculture sector.
